Pool Leak Repair Cost in DFW: What Drives the Price

What makes one pool leak repair cost more than another in Dallas–Fort Worth, explained plainly.

Call For a Diagnosis
The Short Answer

There's no flat price for fixing a pool leak, because no two leaks are the same. The cost comes down to where the leak is, what failed, how hard it is to get to, how much plumbing is involved, and whether the pool has moved. Across the jobs we do, repairs average about $2,500, and it's almost never the nightmare people brace for. The expensive repairs are real, but they're almost always the result of a leak that went ignored for too long. Catch it early, and you're usually looking at a straightforward fix.

Common Repair Types

What Goes Into the Cost of Common Repairs

Every leak is different, but after 13 years in DFW, we see the same failures come up again and again. Here's what each one involves and what moves the price up or down.

Very Common

Broken Pipe Under the Concrete Deck

A pressurized plumbing line fractures under your deck, usually from soil movement. We locate the break precisely using acoustic detection before cutting anything, so we're not tearing up your whole patio. One targeted cut, pipe repaired, concrete patched and matched. Sounds worse than it is. The price mostly comes down to how deep the pipe runs and what's on top of it: deck, yard, or sometimes part of the house.

Skimmer Replacement

When the skimmer body itself cracks or fully separates from the pool wall, resealing alone won't hold. We cut the deck, remove the old skimmer, install a new one, and seal it properly to the shell. It's more involved, but it's a well-defined repair with a known outcome, and the cost mostly depends on how much deck has to come out around it. No surprises at the end.

Spillways, Waterfalls & Spa Overflows

Water features leak when the spillway edge or bond beam behind it fails, and water escapes behind the shell instead of returning to the pool. It's a targeted repair at the weir edge or water feature connection. We only fix the part that's failing, so the price depends on the feature and where it's breaking down.

Structural Cracks in the Shell

Hairline cracks in gunite or plaster pools (usually from Texas clay soil expanding and contracting) allow water to seep through continuously. We repair using epoxy injection or hydraulic cement depending on the type and depth. Small cracks are a modest fix. Larger structural issues exist, but they're the exception. The length and depth of the crack, and whether the shell is still moving, set the price.

Foundation Leveling: Steel Pier Installation

When a leak goes undetected or unrepaired for years, the water eroding soil beneath the pool causes the shell to shift and sink. At that point, structural leveling is required. We work with licensed Texas Professional Engineers and install solid steel piers driven to refusal. The number of piers the pool needs drives the price. This is the expensive repair, and it's almost always avoidable if the original leak had been caught early.

The Most Important Thing to Know

The repair type sets the starting point, but the delay determines how far it escalates. A small seal leak left for 12 months can turn into a pipe repair. A pipe leak left for 2–3 years can turn into foundation work. The leak itself is almost never the expensive part. Waiting is.

What Affects the Price

Why Does the Same Repair Cost Different Amounts?

Two pools can have the same problem and still get different prices. Here's why that happens and what actually drives the cost up or down.

How Long the Leak Has Been Going

A fresh crack is a simple repair. The same crack after 18 months of water eroding the surrounding soil is a bigger job. Early diagnosis is the single biggest factor in keeping costs down.

Where the Leak Is

A fitting leak at the surface is far less expensive to reach than a pipe break 3 feet under your concrete deck. Where it is decides how much digging and patching the job takes.

Whether It's Structural

If the shell has cracked through or started to settle, the job changes. Structural repairs can mean crack repair plus steel piers, planned with a licensed Texas Professional Engineer. DFW's clay soil swells and shrinks more than most, so a small leak here can turn into a structural problem faster than it would in other states.

What Failed

A worn seal is a small repair. A cracked skimmer body or a broken pipe is a bigger one. Older gunite pools with original plumbing from the 80s and 90s often have more than one weak point, and working around them safely takes more time.

How Much Plumbing Is Involved

A pool with a spa, water features, and long pipe runs has more lines to test and more places to fail. Sometimes what looks like one leak is actually three. We don't stop at the first thing we find, and we test everything. That sometimes changes the scope, but it also means we don't come back a month later for the second one.

Access: Deck, Yard, or Under the House

A pipe under open yard is easier to reach than one under the deck, and a line that runs under part of the house takes the most work. Any repair that means cutting and patching concrete adds cost, but we match the finish as closely as possible, and we're precise about where we cut so the disruption is minimal.

How We Work

You Know the Cost Before We Start

We diagnose the leak first, with full pressure testing, dye testing, and acoustic detection on every job. Once we know exactly what's happening and where, we give you a written estimate with all costs before any repair begins.

No verbal quotes. No surprises at the end. You approve the scope in writing, we do the work, and you get a written warranty when we're done. That's the whole process, with no guesswork on your end at any point.

The warranty is part of what you're paying for. Pipe and seal repairs come with a 3-year written warranty, and structural pier repairs come with a lifetime warranty. The full terms are on our warranty page.

Leak detection is priced separately, based on the size of your pool and how much plumbing there is to test.

Common Questions

Pool Leak Repair Cost FAQ

How much does it cost to fix a pool leak?

It depends on where the leak is, what failed, and how hard it is to get to. Across the jobs we do, repairs average about $2,500. A seal or fitting repair is usually on the lower end. An underground pipe under concrete or a skimmer replacement costs more. Foundation leveling with steel piers is the high end, and it's almost always preventable with early diagnosis. You get the price in writing before any work starts.

Is pool leak repair covered by homeowner's insurance?

In most cases, no. Standard homeowner's insurance doesn't cover pool leak repairs caused by wear and deterioration. Some policies cover sudden, accidental damage. We recommend checking your policy, but don't count on it. We provide detailed written documentation of findings which can help with any claims you choose to pursue.

What if you find more than one leak?

We test every system on every job, not just the obvious source. If we find multiple issues, we document all of them in the written report and give you a clear estimate for each. You decide what to prioritize and approve. We don't proceed on anything you haven't agreed to in writing.

What warranty comes with the repair?

Lifetime warranty on structural pier repairs. 3-year written warranty on pipe repairs. 3-year written warranty on seal repairs. If you sell the house, the warranties can transfer to the new owner with written notice within 30 days of closing. The pier warranty then runs 5 years from closing, and the 3-year warranties run out their remaining term.

Can a pool leak get more expensive if I wait?

Yes, significantly. Water escaping under your pool continuously erodes the soil beneath the shell and deck. That soil movement leads to structural cracking, deck sinking, and eventually foundation movement requiring pier installation. A leak that started as a simple repair can turn into structural work if it's left for a couple of years. Early diagnosis is by far the most cost-effective decision.
