Use the 24-hour tape test. Turn the autofill off, put a strip of tape on the pool wall at the water line, and mark the level. Leave it for 24 hours without adding any water, then check it. Summer evaporation takes about a quarter inch a day, so if the pool falls further than that, water’s likely getting out somewhere besides the air.
